Nina van de Ven (born 1988) has devoted herself entirely to drawing since graduating in 2014. Her work is characterised by large, composite figures meticulously worked out, with each layer revealing new motifs and representations. In recent years, she has expanded her practice to include ceramics, allowing her to explore a wider palette of materials.

Characteristic of Van de Ven's work is the convergence of historical and contemporary imagery. From ancient Greek vases to modern puffer jackets, from the culture of the Vikings to the popular television programme Temptation Island - Van de Ven interweaves these disparate elements in an associative way, creating new, surprising stories.

In Interplay, Van de Ven explores the connections between the past and the present, juxtaposing history, contemporary pop culture and time-based trends. The result is an alternative narrative, in which the artist's associative freedom exudes a sense of openness and fun. Her work offers a playful yet profound reflection on how our culture develops and relates to the narratives of the past.
