Rob Bouwman's (1981) work centres on the mastery of colour and form. His works are carefully constructed from patterns and nuanced colour-formations that he applies to wooden panels. Due to the transparency of the material, the paintings play with the perception of light and space. The images he creates evoke a tension between the material and the immaterial, between surface and illusion.

At a time when digital images are produced and consumed at a rapid pace, Bouwman's work invites us to pause and look again with attention. In the solo exhibition Garden of Eden, you imagine yourself in a spatial illusion of colour and form. In the exhibition, we see Bouwmans' paintings on a background of pattern-filling wallpaper with colour formations taken from his own work. The colourful symmetry forms a three-dimensional extension of his paintings and invites the visitor not only to see but also to experience the work.
